The political theater of power – the resignation that „came… because Peevski and Borisov decided so“. When Rosen Zhelyazkov announced that the government would resign, it did not sound like an act of political will. It sounded like a line from an already written script. A script in which the main roles are once again reserved for Boyko Borisov and Delyan Peevski – the two directors of the political theater that has been keeping the country in a state of controlled instability for more than a decade.

The protests on the streets clearly showed that society is fully aware of who is really running the country. Zhelyazkov’s cabinet was just a showcase – behind it stood Peevski, who not only influenced but directly commanded, demonstrating his power even more than in the times of his greatest untouchability. And Borisov? He again “has nothing to do“, while deciding when and how the next move will happen.

And now the move is clearly a resignation. But not as an admission of failure, but as a strategic reshuffle. An old trick: you let off steam with a resignation, you break the pressure, the holidays pass, people get distracted, then in January-February you assemble a new cabinet with almost the same people, only under a different name. It is time, they say, to “stabilize the state“, while they actually stabilize their positions before the next elections. The vote in February or March, in the cold, and without Rumen Radev, who will clearly have to hurry up “…when you least expect it“, if he wants something in the country to change and enter the political scene. A theatrical move or a well-thought-out political action on the part of Borisov and Peevski…

And the most convenient excuse, of course, is the eurozone.

The euro should become the official currency and “this is not the time“ for elections. We have already heard this – the national interest is taken out when someone's personal interest needs to be justified. And if Borisov said that the resignation will come “after every Bulgarian withdraws euros from an ATM“, then it is clear what is happening – the eurozone is being used as a shield, not as a reform. Another change of opinion in 24 hours, after we heard that they will squeeze until January 1. What changed in 24 hours… Where did Bulgaria go!? First there was a problem with the resignation, and 24 hours later Zhelyazkov threw it theatrically…

And let us recall! The current Council of Ministers remains in power until a new cabinet is formed or until the president appoints caretaker government. There is no “vacuum“, there is no “anarchy“. The old Council of Ministers governs and bears full responsibility for all decisions. The National Assembly is NOT DISSOLVED.
The parliament works until the constitution of a new National Assembly after the elections. The state has power and Zhelyazkov will bear responsibility in January as well.

The truth is simple - the resignation was inevitable, because the pressure is real. But a new cabinet after the New Year - this is just as inevitable, because the dependencies are the same. And as long as Peevski continues to pull the strings and Borisov plays the role of a distant founding father, the political theater will continue. Only the scenery will change.

And what is missing is real change.
The resignation is just act one.
The problem is who writes the next act.
