FAKTI.BG publishes opinions with a wide range of perspectives to encourage constructive debates.

On the air of “Wake up” Martin Dimitrov from PP-DB analyzed the economic situation of the country and outlined the political positions of the formation before the upcoming vote.

Budget and public debt

Dimitrov defined the financial policy of the current government as “budget bacchanalia”. He gave specific figures for the planned new loans: “20 billion leva for 2026 and 19 billion for 2025. A total of 39 billion - this is a bacchanalia, spending like a madman with a machine gun”.

The MP defended the proposal for a one-time indexation of incomes with the percentage of annual inflation, calling it a “political compromise” for people in the budget sphere, but stressed that the economy was overloaded with huge expenses.

Schengen and obstacles to business

According to Dimitrov, despite Bulgaria's entry into the land Schengen, exports to the EU are falling. He accused the authorities of “bullying business”, giving an example of changes to the VAT Act. According to him, exports to destinations that do not have a VAT regime are becoming 20% more expensive, as companies cannot use tax credits. “Instead of realizing our potential, we ourselves are hindering our exporters”, he said.

Political red lines

Dimitrov was categorical that the PP-DB is entering the elections with the goal of first place and a majority of over 121 deputies, which would allow for a change in the model and the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council. When asked about a future joint government with GERB and DPS, he replied: “You cannot govern with Borisov and Peevski. They created a model that must be changed categorically. I already feel that we are stuck in a quagmire, from which we can only get out with bold actions.

Regarding a possible project by President Rumen Radev, he described it as an “unborn Petko”. For the caretaker prime minister, Dimitrov pointed to Andrey Gyurov as the most suitable because of his qualities, despite the “unfair attack” against him.

Machine voting and media freedom

”Machine voting is critical for fair elections in Bulgaria”, stressed Dimitrov. He explained that the machines eliminate the “dark room”, do not allow for the filming of ballots and limit the bought vote.

At the end of the conversation, Dimitrov expressed concern about the removal of journalists who ask critical questions. “Strong, good journalism is critical. "It should be critical of everyone, not just those we don't like," he concluded.
