Comment by Dimitar Popov about "Factor"
Undoubtedly, the mess around Glavchev's office is due to the incompetent changes in the constitution that the city idiots made on their knees, violating even the norms of common sense.
Instead of like in Greece, where the speaker of the parliament becomes acting prime minister and that's it, they pushed a list of people who are forbidden by European rules to have anything to do with the executive power. As a result, we got a circle of 10 people who naturally refused to take on the role of caretaker prime minister, and it was necessary for one of them, obviously with more responsibility than the others, to take the role anyway, so that we do not fall into a constitutional crisis. If there were
punishment - bare canes for idiocy,
those who made this mess deserve it.
On the other hand, Hristo Ivanov and the others should be praised for these changes. True, they were clumsily done, but they essentially limited the president's power to use caretaker governments for personal purposes. However, they cut off a path through which the candidate for dictator Radev was sneaking towards sole and authoritarian power in the state. And for that they deserve praise.
Unfortunately, however, this is a temporary and partial victory for democracy. A recently conducted sociological study in Europe showed that Bulgarians en masse dream of a dictator who will rule their lives with a firm hand.
The study itself, carried out by IPSOS and distributed by Euronews, is a survey of the attitude of Europeans towards their leaders. Orban is the most hated national leader in Europe. Even in Hungary, the negative evaluations for him are 54%. In Bulgaria, however, the picture is upside down – approval for Orbán is 48%, and negative evaluations are only 24%. There is no such miracle in any other country and it clearly shows the attitudes and sentiments of the Bulgarians towards an authoritarian government like Orban's.
Why does the Bulgarian population like Viktor Orban so much?
- First, because Orbán positions himself as a nationalist who defends Hungary against Brussels' attempts to “ruin it as a country, imposing various liberal nonsense”.
- Second, because Orban is close to Putin, he likes his policy very much and does not want to help Ukraine.
- Thirdly, because Orbán squeezed the gypsies and other minorities into the ghettos and expelled all the “Sorosoid“ organizations that toyed with them.
- Fourth, because Orbán promises the Hungarian minority in Romania his protection and promises to one day take back Transylvania.
- Fifth, because Orbán is an authoritarian leader, a dictator with a firm hand, who rules alone and has under his control the media, banks, businesses, and Hungarians themselves.
These five characteristics obviously appeal to the majority of Bulgarians. If we transfer them to Bulgarian soil, we will quickly find that there is a leader who fully fits Orban's profile. And his name is…i
he is…Rumen Radev
I will outline his profile according to the above arrangement, so that the comparison with Orbán is also clearer:
- First, Radev positioned himself as a nationalist with the big flag in the Rhodopes, with the Third March movement, with the international isolation in which he finds himself in Europe, where he is considered an anti-European politician.
- Second, Radev is not only close to Putin, he proved that he is a Russian resident in Bulgaria.
- Thirdly, Radev, with the attacks against the DPS, with the actions of his acting ministers of the interior in the Roma ghettos, with his enmity towards Soros's NGOs, outlined his negative attitude towards liberalism and towards Europe.
- Fourth, in the saga with North Macedonia and the fierce defense of the Bulgarians there, he gained points as a defender of ours abroad.
- Fifth, Radev does not hide that he wants a presidential republic in which he can rule all spheres of public life in the country single-handedly and with a firm hand, and position him as a sole dictator for years to come, as happened with Orbán.
As the results of the sociological survey show, Bulgarians would gladly give power to a person like Rumen Radev. It is no coincidence that he is currently the highest-rated Bulgarian politician, the only one with a positive rating and high approval in the entire society.
So cutting his powers to use caretaker governments to gain more and more power was perfectly well-intentioned and timely.
However… Bulgarians' sentiments against multi-party democracy have remained unchanged for years. This silent majority that does not vote, and which is over 63%, will one day still find its Orbán, and then our European future will be at stake. Orban could not turn the Hungarians into Russophiles because they historically hate Russia there and would not allow Russian tanks to enter Budapest again. In Bulgaria, however, someone like Orban can very easily and imperceptibly push the country towards Eurasia and make it
Russian vassal
in no time.
Do you know why?
The reason can be seen in the same sociological survey, where the attitude of Europeans towards Putin was also measured. In it, 79% of the inhabitants of the continent have a negative opinion of him, against 11% positive reviews of the Russian president. In three countries– Greece, Slovakia and Hungary, the negative evaluations are lower - between 59 and 56%.
In Bulgaria, however, the picture is shocking – only 48% hate Putin, and 37% simply admire him.
It is clear why the majority of Europeans hate Putin. Because he has declared war on Europe and calls us his enemies; because he wants Eastern Europe to be returned to him under the Russian boot; because it threatens everyone with nuclear weapons; because it declares Bulgaria, Romania, and Poland fake countries that have no right to exist, just like Ukraine; and because he has decided that war is his favorite means of making policy and achieving his ends. How can you like the modern Hitler, who scares people with death?
Isn't it perfectly natural that when someone is your enemy and threatens you in this way, you should hate that person? You may not go to fight him – fear justifies you somewhat; you may not blame his subjects who carry out orders under threat, because they too are human; but at least the moral assessment should be clear – he is Evil because he wants a world war. No one in the world likes warmongers, do they! The peoples want to live in peace, as is often repeated in our country.
For what reason, then, do the warmongers in our country love them, and en masse? There is an answer, of course, but it is unflattering to ourselves and I don't want to be the one to explain it publicly. So I will say it in two words – this is
national self-abasement
Bulgaria must in any case remain a democratic, legal state, with a parliamentary government, with a market economy, a member of NATO and the EU. And since a large part of Bulgarians are looking for a leader who will change this picture, it is good that the external pressure on the country's governance does not weaken.
Because the Bulgarian Orban will not appear in these elections and the silent non-voting majority will still not go to the polls. But in the next elections, who knows what will happen…
