The world weightlifting champion Carlos Nassar stepped on home soil 5 days after his great triumph at the Bahrain championship, NOVA reported.

There, the 20-year-old weightlifter amazed his competitors in the 89 kg category, setting two world records, made with a shoulder injury.

"It definitely wasn't easy, I was heavier, I had to lose weight, but I was very motivated. I expected more competition, I gave it my all. I experienced a lot of joy this year, maybe I'm exhausted with emotions. Next year I will change the category - I will already be in the 98 kg category (note: he competed in the 89 kg category until now). There will be new records to improve and new challenges. I am an ordinary boy who fights for his dreams every day and does not give up under any circumstances", said the champion.

He was supposed to have surgery after winning the Olympic gold medal in Paris, but he did not do it, and these days he underwent medical examinations in Germany. In 2024, Nassar became the first Bulgarian athlete to win an Olympic, world and European title in one calendar year.

According to him, his path has been quite thorny, but he managed to cope. "It was a big blow for me that my coach died, then I tore my Achilles. The mistakes I made are correctable. I will have to rest for some time because of my shoulder, I will do everything possible to avoid surgery. "After such a long recovery, it's unknown if I'll be able to return," Nassar explained.
