At the IAA Transportation 2024 exhibition in Hannover, DAF Trucks is showing its updated heavy-duty trucks - models XD, XF, XG and XG+. Thanks to the improved engine line and optimized aerodynamics, fuel consumption has been reduced by 9%.
Let's start with the Paccar MX-11 and MX-13 engines, which received different valve timing, a double pump cooling system, updated turbo systems and innovative exhaust gas recirculation. The new fuel injectors are also more efficient and reliable.
The SR1344 rear axle features new gears that are stronger and more durable and fulfills DAF's strategy of delivering maximum engine power (up to 530 hp) at lower revs. This is also helped by an automated gearbox with a new switching algorithm, which makes it possible to reduce revolutions by 7% at cruising speed - from 1,030 to 950 per minute.
Thanks to better economy and reduced harmful emissions, the trucks meet Maut Class 3 standards, which will save thousands of euros in road tolls in Germany. And one more thing. Now all new DAF XD, XF, XG and XG+ models with 4x2 and 6x2 wheel formula are equipped as standard with DAF Digital Vision cameras instead of traditional mirrors.
Predictable cruise control and tires with reduced rolling resistance are also part of the novelties. All this allows to reduce fuel consumption by another 6%. Thus, the total fuel economy reaches 9% - compared to its predecessors. Actual fuel consumption can be even lower, as standard equipment now also includes a new aerodynamic package.
