German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said on Wednesday that violations of Polish and Romanian airspace by Russian drones were part of a long-term Kremlin strategy to test borders and undermine stability in Europe, the BBC quoted him as saying, BTA reports.
“Russia wants to destabilize our free societies unnoticed,“ Merz said in a speech to the Bundestag. He stressed that a peace agreement in Ukraine cannot be achieved at the cost of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. “An imposed peace, a peace without freedom, will push Putin to look for his next target,“ the German chancellor added.
The statement comes after a massive Russian drone attack on Ukraine last week, during which unmanned aircraft also entered Polish airspace. Days later, a drone was also recorded entering Romanian skies. Moscow denies the accusations.
