Poland reported new drone activity near its border with Belarus on Thursday night. The incident came shortly after the end of the joint military exercises of Belarus and Russia “Zapad-2025“, “Reuters“ reported, quoted by BTA.
Warsaw's concerns intensified on September 9-10, when 21 Russian drones entered Polish airspace.
Interior Minister Marcin Kerwiński explained that despite the end of the exercises, the border remains closed because “it will be opened when it is safe to do so“.
“Border "The security forces last night reported increased activity by Belarusian and Russian drones trying to cross Polish airspace. It is clear that the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border remains very, very tense," Kerwinski said, without giving further details.
According to an interior ministry spokesman, there was no Polish intervention or attempt to shoot down the drones.
Since the start of the war in Ukraine, Belarus has stepped up military cooperation with Russia, allowing Russian troops to pass through its territory.
Poland, for its part, remains among Ukraine's biggest supporters.
There are six border crossings along the border with Belarus, four of which Warsaw has kept closed due to long-standing tensions with Minsk. Three railway crossings for freight transport have also been closed.
