Romania is prepared to defend itself from Russian challenges and will act in close cooperation with its NATO partners. This was stated by Defense Minister Ionut Moșteanu, quoted by Digi24, regarding the latest incident with a Russian drone that entered the country's airspace, BTA reports.
“We will continue to see such challenges. The important thing is to make wise decisions and show that we are ready to act together with our allies“, commented Moșteanu.
According to him, the investigations into the discovered parts of a drone with Russian inscriptions on a beach in Constanta are continuing. The minister specified that if it is only pieces of plastic, there is no direct danger, but in the case of unexploded drones, checks are carried out by all competent institutions.
Moșșeanu reminded that such incidents are not unusual, given Romania's proximity to the military conflict. “We have over 20 cases in which drone debris has fallen on Romanian territory, in Dobrudja or on the Black Sea coast, after being destroyed by Ukrainian air defense systems“, he pointed out.“
The latest incident was on Saturday, when a drone entered Romanian airspace over northern Dobrudja. Two F-16 fighter jets intercepted it and tracked it for about 50 minutes. According to the Romanian Ministry of Defense, the drone was a Russian type “Geran“, but Moscow rejected the accusations.
