Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed hope to discuss a peace plan between Ukraine and Russia with US President Donald Trump, reports "Reuters".
He made the remarks after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Erdogan stressed that "peace is not far away".
The Turkish leader met with Putin in Turkmenistan yesterday and both praised "comprehensive peace efforts" to end the war, with Turkey reaffirming its readiness to support peace efforts.
"After this meeting with Putin, we hope to have the opportunity to discuss the peace plan with US President Trump as well. Peace is not far away; we see this," Erdogan said on his return flight from Turkmenistan.
He told Putin that a limited ceasefire in the war, focused on energy facilities and ports in particular, could be beneficial.
"The Black Sea should not be seen as a battlefield. Such a situation would only harm Russia and Ukraine," Erdogan stressed.
"Everyone needs safe shipping in the Black Sea. This must be guaranteed."
Russia attacked two Ukrainian ports on Sunday, damaging three Turkish ships, including a vessel carrying food supplies, Ukrainian officials and a shipowner said, days after Moscow threatened to cut Ukraine off from the sea.
