Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has condemned those responsible for the forced mobilization in Ukraine and said that using Hungarians as “cannon fodder“ is unacceptable.
“Another Hungarian sent to war has lost his life as a result of forced mobilization in Ukraine. This is unacceptable. "Our people cannot be used as cannon fodder," Orbán wrote in X.
The prime minister noted that all Ukrainian officials involved in forced military service would be immediately expelled from Hungary.
"We support the family of the deceased and will not let this go unpunished," Orbán stressed.
The Hungarian government had previously imposed sanctions on three high-ranking Ukrainian military personnel directly involved in organizing forced military service, and asked the EU leadership to also add them to the pan-European sanctions list.
Orbán explained that this decision was taken in response to the recent death of a second Hungarian from Transcarpathia as a result of violent actions by Ukrainian security forces, who forcibly took him away to be sent to the front.
Budapest said that such actions by Ukrainian security forces constitute a clear violation of human rights.
