US President Joe Biden said today that he expects Iran to attack Israel "soon , not after time" and warned Tehran not to do so, reported Reuters and DPA, quoted by BTA.
When asked by journalists what his message was to Iran, Biden only replied: “Don't do it” and emphasized Washington's commitment to defending Israel.
"We are dedicated to the defense of Israel. We will support Israel. We will help defend Israel and Iran will not succeed," said the American president.
In view of a possible retaliatory strike by Iran against Israel, the US has previously announced that it will increase its military presence in the Middle East. A representative of the Ministry of Defense told DPA that the US is sending additional forces to the region to strengthen “regional deterrence efforts and increase the protection of US forces”.
It remains unclear exactly what assets are involved and from where to where the transfer is being made, the DPA states.
Iran's threats to Israel have increased since the April 1 airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria that killed several military generals.
The US president said he did not want to specify what secret information Washington has about Tehran's plans, Reuters also reported.
The US has already significantly increased its military presence in the region after the terrorist attack by the Islamist movement “Hamas” on October 7, 2023 and sent several warships to the Middle East, DPA reminds.
