The United States believes that it is likely Iran to attack Israel on Sunday morning, Al Jazeera reported, citing an unnamed US official.
„There is a high probability that Iran will attack Israel in the early hours of Sunday,” the official told the TV channel.
On the evening of April 1, Israeli aviation struck the building of the Consulate General of Iran in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The consulate building also housed the residence of Iranian Ambassador Hossein Akbari, who was not injured in the attack. According to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the consulate building was completely destroyed as a result of a missile attack.
According to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (an elite force of the armed forces), the Israeli strike killed seven officers, including two senior general advisers: Mohammad Reza Zahedi and his deputy, Brigadier General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said it reserves the right to respond to the Israeli airstrike on the consulate general in Damascus, as well as to determine exactly how to “punish the aggressor”. Elaf said on Wednesday that Israel was preparing to strike targets in Iran if Tehran responded to the attack on its consulate in Damascus with attacks on Israeli targets.
