A US resident who previously attempted suicide outside the courthouse where hearings are being held in the case of former President Donald Trump on falsification of financial documents has died, the newspaper reported New York Post citing police.
The publication specifies that the deceased is a 37-year-old resident of Florida.
Earlier, the television channel CNN reported that the incident happened near the place where Trump supporters gathered.
The reason for the investigation against the former US president was the publication of the newspaper The Wall Street Journal in January 2018. According to her, a month before the Republican won the presidential election in 2016, his lawyer Michael Cohen paid porn actress Stormy Daniels (real name Stephanie Clifford) USD 130,000 to not spread information about her relationship with Trump about 10 years ago.
In 2018, Cohen was indicted on several charges, one of which was related to violations of Trump campaign finance rules, specifically payments to Daniels. At the time, prosecutors did not press charges against Trump, citing presidential immunity. However, in November 2022, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office opened a new investigation. According to investigators, Trump reimbursed his lawyer for the money spent, processing it through the Trump Organization as payment for legal fees, citing a non-existent legal advance.
On April 4, 2023, a New York court filed criminal charges against Trump in the Daniels payments case. Trump thus became the first former president in US history to be charged with a crime.
