Kiev prepares for Global Peace Summit to be held in mid- June in Switzerland. Ukraine's allies will discuss options for ending the war at the high-level meeting. The Kremlin is trying to thwart this event because Vladimir Putin does not need peace – he needs war.
FREEDOM TV asked viewers and experts how Putin can be forced to stop the war he started against Ukraine. Opinions among viewers are mixed.
“A missile strike on the Kremlin and a 24-hour ultimatum: NATO has the capabilities to do this,” says one of them. Another claims that eliminating Putin will achieve nothing, because he is only “the tip of the iceberg in Russia”. Another says that “peace” of Putin means the capitulation of Ukraine and its disappearance from the map, as well as that you cannot negotiate with terrorists.
„This question is similar to the question – how to force hitler to peace? How do you coerce a maniac who enjoys killing and gore? No way... Just destroy him as a dangerous terrorist. Putin himself will never stop – he is infected with the rabid misanthropy”, says another viewer.
Experts are sure that Putin will not stop this war by himself. Leonid Gozman, a Russian opposition politician, said it was “impossible” Putin to be forced to seek peace. “It seems to me that he cannot give way. Primarily for political reasons: if he abdicated, he lost the crown, and along with the crown, perhaps his head. And for psychological reasons: he bet his whole life on this war. And this war will never stop”, Gozman declared.
„It seems to me that Putin's regime is already such that they cannot live without war. The war will continue as long as Putin is in power in the Kremlin”, Gozman also said.
The adviser to the Ukrainian presidency, Mykhailo Podolyak, said that the war should be transferred to Russian territory. “If we do not transfer the war to Russian territory, then it can last for a very long time. Russia is not a country that is interested in its own development. This is a country that is interested in ruin, in absorbing its neighbors,”, he pointed out. As soon as Russians see Russia's crushing defeat in Ukraine, internal tensions in the Russian Federation will only increase.
„Today, unfortunately, many neutral countries perceive the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine as some small territorial conflict, which was provoked by unknown who or when. Russia spends a lot of money on this primitive propaganda. And let's be honest, for example, in Latin America or the countries of the African continent, they are unlikely to study in detail what is happening in this or that country of Eastern Europe. If they are not deeply immersed in the topic, then, of course, the influence of Russian propaganda will be felt in these countries”, said Podolyak.
Political scientist Oleg Sahakyan said that Russia is labeled as a criminal - and not because Ukraine called it that, but because it is in accordance with international law. And if we do not restore international law, then we will be dealing with a criminal. Ultimately, the security system will be determined by the results of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
