Today Syrian air defenses said that they had shot down Israeli missiles fired from The Golan Heights to the outskirts of Damascus and aimed at buildings in a rural area, Reuters and BTA report.
Israel has been striking Iran-linked targets in Syria for years, but they have intensified since the attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" against Israel on October 7 last year.
On April 1, Israel struck the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus, killing a senior commander of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as well as other military officers. In response, Iran for the first time directly attacked Israeli territory.
