Colombian President Gustavo Petro, whose country cut all diplomatic ties with Israel accusing it of genocide in the Gaza Strip, has called on the International Criminal Court to issue an arrest warrant of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
"Netanyahu will not stop the genocide. This means the issuance of an arrest warrant by the ICC," wrote Petro in "Ex".
He also suggested that the UN Security Council consider establishing a peacekeeping force in the Gaza Strip.
On May 1, Petro announced that Colombia was cutting diplomatic ties with Israel, following the example of Bolivia and Belize. Earlier, Colombia also announced that it was suspending the purchase of Israeli-made weapons. Israel is one of Colombia's main arms suppliers.
"We cannot return to the era of genocide, of the extermination of an entire people,", the Colombian president said.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz reacted by calling Petro an anti-Semite.
The Colombian president has criticized several times the war waged by Israel in the Gaza Strip after the attack by "Hamas" against South Israel on October 7 last year. On February 20, he accused Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, expressing full solidarity with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who drew a parallel between the Israeli offensive and the extermination of the Jews by the Nazis, sparking a diplomatic crisis.
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu has already stated that issuing an international warrant for his arrest would be a scandal of historic proportions.
