Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani discussed the international agenda with EU representatives in Kosovo and called for lifting of the punitive measures against the country. This was announced by Kosovo Radio and Television, referring to information from the Kosovo presidency, BTA reported.
Osmani met yesterday with the ambassadors of EU countries, the head of the EU mission for the rule of law in Kosovo (EULEX) Giovanni Pietro Barbano and the ambassador of the European Union in Kosovo Tomas Šunoj. She talked with her interlocutors about the coordination of Kosovo with the EU policy and with other countries allied to Pristina in matters of foreign policy and security.
„President (Vyosa) Osmani stressed that Kosovo continues to be fully synchronized with the EU's security and foreign policy policies, including the approval of sanctions against Russia, as well as (against) other countries or groups that threaten world security and peace”, says the announcement of the presidency.
The President of Kosovo stressed the need to remove the punitive measures against Kosovo, which mostly affect the well-being of all Kosovo citizens, the message states.
At the end of June 2023, the European Union imposed punitive measures against Pristina in connection with the tension created after the inauguration of Albanian mayors in four northern municipalities in Kosovo, mostly populated by Serbs. The measures include the temporary suspension of EU-Kosovo joint commissions based on the Stabilization and Association Agreement and the freezing of invitations to high-level meetings as well as bilateral visits, except for those related to dealing with the crisis in northern Kosovo within the Kosovo dialogue – Serbia with the mediation of the EU.
Osmani also emphasized that Kosovo has already fulfilled all the conditions for the lifting of the measures.
At the meeting, the ambassadors present also informed the Kosovo president about the preparations for the peace conference in Ukraine, which will be held in Switzerland in June.
