G7 leaders focus on issues of migration, artificial intelligence, economic security and Indian- the Pacific region yesterday, on the second and last day of its meeting in Italy, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

The meeting also discussed other important topics, such as providing financial assistance to Ukraine, the war in the Gaza Strip, climate change, Iran, the situation in the Red Sea, gender equality and China's industrial and economic policy.

"We are working together and with others to address the pressing challenges of our time," said a final communique from the G7 leaders, in which they stressed their solidarity with Ukraine, their support for a deal that would lead to a ceasefire and the release of the hostages in Gaza, investing in sustainable infrastructure in Africa.

One of the main topics discussed at the meeting was migration, with the leaders talking about different ways to fight human trafficking, as well as increasing investment in countries where migrants come from. The topic was of particular interest to the host Italy, which is located on one of the main migrant routes through which people reach the European Union from Africa, the Middle East and Asia, AP notes.

In addition to the G-7 countries, several African leaders, including the presidents of Algeria, Kenya and Tunisia, participated in the meeting at the invitation of Italy. Their presence was linked to the agenda of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on migration issues and her initiatives for the development of the countries from which migrants come.

Human rights organizations, however, stated that there is a lack of ambition in providing support to developing countries, AP notes.
