After the Swiss peace conference on Ukraine, where a diplomatic path was opened, we saw the response of (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, with visits to North Korea and wherever he can get weapons, is clearly preparing for a long war. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, to journalists before the start of today's meeting of European foreign ministers in Luxembourg, BTA reported.
We must continue diplomatic efforts, but also increase aid to Ukraine, he insisted. Borrell said the EU has an opportunity to bypass Hungary's previous resistance to using the proceeds of seized Russian property for Kiev's benefit. There are rules according to which a party that did not support a decision need not implement it, he explained.
According to Borel, next week it is planned to receive the first part of a total of 2.5 billion euros of income from seized Russian property, which should be directed to provide military support for Kiev. He indicated that today he will propose a solution to the EU foreign ministers in order to bypass Budapest's resistance.
On the occasion of the events in Georgia, Borel warned that the door to the EU could be closed in front of Tbilisi. The door to the EU is open, but if the government continues in the same direction, it will close and Georgians will pay the price, they will suffer, the European perspective can be cancelled, he added.
