An arson attempt in the German city of Bochum on a mosque she was attending a painted swastika, a shooting at the door of a Muslim family in the state of Saxony by a right-wing extremist neighbor, and a woman pushed onto the train tracks in Berlin after being asked if she was a member of "Hamas". These are just some of the record 1,926 cases of anti-Muslim events registered in Germany last year by non-governmental organizations, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The agency notes that this marks a 114% increase compared to 2023, with incidents having increased in particular since the "Hamas" on October 7, an attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip.
According to NGOs, the recorded incidents, which are likely to be only a small fraction of the total due to fear of reporting them and the lack of oversight bodies, also include 90 attacks on Islamic religious sites, cemeteries and other institutions.

Most incidents involving individuals involved verbal abuse and were directed at women. There were also four assassination attempts.
The Muslim population in Germany is growing rapidly, especially after the influx of migrants in 2015-2016, currently totaling 5.5 million people or 6.6% of the country's total population.
