China warns NATO not to “provoke confrontation” because of the People's Republic's relations with Russia, reported focus.de.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry categorically rejects all NATO accusations and considers them to be "biased, defamatory and provocative". What's more, Beijing has called the Alliance a "relic of the Cold War".
The reason for the sharp reaction is NATO's accusations against China that it supports the Russian aggressor in its war against Russia.
Beijing points out that the "constructive role" of China in the war in Ukraine is "widely recognized by the international community". In a previous statement, the Chinese mission to the EU said Beijing had never provided lethal weapons to either country, adding that its “normal trade relations” with Russia should not be interrupted or pressured.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the 32 NATO member states described China as a "decisive accomplice" in Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine. Beijing has yet to publicly condemn the war and continues to supply Moscow with civilian and military goods. China describes its role in the Ukraine war as neutral. Since the beginning of the war, relations between China and Russia have become more intense.
China's mission to the EU responded to NATO's accusations by warning the alliance to stay away from Asia, which is "not a field for geopolitical competition". “NATO continues to emphasize the link between European security and security in the Asia-Pacific region... We call on it to remain in its role as a regional defense organization in the North Atlantic. "NATO must not become a destroyer of peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region or a tool used by some major powers to maintain hegemony," the statement said, UNIAN agency writes.
