Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and the US President's national security adviser Jake Sullivan will lose their posts if current Deputy Prime Minister Kamala Harris becomes president.

This was revealed by The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials.

The publication noted that Harris's victory could lead to “reshuffles in the Democratic national security team”. All three are key “appointed“ by current US President Joe Biden. Her current national security adviser, Philip Gordon, is likely to play a central role in handling national security issues under Harris.

Harris became a potential presidential candidate after Biden dropped out of the presidential race. The prerequisites for this were the unsuccessful debates with the main rival, the candidate of the Republican Party and former US President Donald Trump, the attempted assassination of the latter, as well as questions about Biden's health. On July 17, it became known that he had contracted the coronavirus, the president had to self-isolate.

In announcing his retirement, Biden voiced support for his vice presidential bid. Harris has confirmed that he intends to run. Trump said it would be easier for him to beat Harris than Biden.

Harris was able to garner enough support among Democratic lawmakers who would vote for her to run for the Democratic presidential nomination. A Reuters/Ipsos poll showed the vice president ahead of his rival by two percentage points in the poll of the choice between Harris and Trump. According to the survey, Harris is supported by 44% of respondents, while Trump - by 42%.

Presidential elections will be held in November 2024
