The Ukrainian General Staff announced on Saturday that the Ukrainian armed forces had sunk the Russian submarine "Rostov on Don" with a missile strike, which was undergoing repairs in Sevastopol.
„As a result of the impact, the boat sank in place”, said the General Staff, quoted by the Russian service of the BBC.
The Ukrainian military did not specify when exactly this happened, but the last missile strike on Sevastopol, according to reports from both sides, was carried out on the night of August 2.
Then the Russian governor of that city reported only downed missiles and their debris falling in various places in Sevastopol.
The Ukrainian General Staff recalls that “Rostov on Don“ it was damaged by a missile attack in September 2023 and has since been under repair and testing in Sevastopol Bay.
The Ukrainian Telegram channel "Crimean Wind" clarifies that the submarine was located in the shipyard of the Ship Repair Plant in the Kilim Bay of Sevastopol.
„Rostov on the Don“ is a new (launched in 2014) diesel submarine capable of carrying specifically four “Caliber“ cruise missiles.
The General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also claimed that Ukrainian missile forces “significantly damaged“ four launchers of the S-400 "Triumph" anti-aircraft missile system located in Crimea. This, according to a statement from the General Staff, happened yesterday, August 2.
The Russian military has not said anything about the submarine or the "Triumph" air defense system.
