NATO announced full support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia and called on Russia to withdraw its troops from the territory of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. This was announced by the spokesperson of the Alliance, Farah Dahlala, on the X social network, as quoted by Focus.

In her post, she emphasizes that South Ossetia and Abkhazia are parts of Georgia, "despite long years of occupation”.

"We call on Russia to withdraw the troops it has deployed in Georgia without its consent. South Ossetia and Abkhazia are part of Georgia, despite 16 years of Russian occupation. NATO fully supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia”, the NATO press secretary wrote.

Russia sent its troops to Georgian territory on August 7, 2008. As a result of the war, Georgia lost control over Abkhazia and South Ossetia. On August 26 of the same year, Russia recognized "independence” of the regions.
