Russian soldiers are en masse surrendering in their own country. The Ukrainian army, which carried out a surprise invasion of the Kursk region on August 6, captured dozens of settlements.

According to Ukrainian military-political analyst Oleksandr Kovalenko, in just a few days, Kiev forces took 2,000 Russian prisoners of war. “Their own life is much more important to them. And they made the right decision by surrendering. This is a huge number“, Kovalenko told NEXTA.

Many videos have appeared on social networks since August 6 showing Russian soldiers gathered in a line being taken as prisoners, with their hands and eyes tied.

Some of them are very young and were in shock when they saw Ukrainian forces across the border, Sky News writes. Russian soldiers say that everything happened very quickly and they simply surrendered. Their families do not know what happened to them. Captured soldiers interviewed by the media said they hoped to be exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners of war so they could return home.

The commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army Oleksandr Sirsky announced that the Ukrainian forces have established a military command in the occupied part of the Russian Kursk region. Major General Eduard Moskalev was appointed head of the new institution. “We are making progress in the Kursk region. A commandant's office was created to ensure order and meet the needs of the local population, Sirski pointed out.

Kiev has announced that it will create a humanitarian corridor. Ukraine clearly states that it does not attack civilians in its offensive.
