Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko pardons 30 more people convicted for protests, reported the state news agency Belta, quoted by "Reuters".

Human rights activists claim that around 1,400 people are in prison in Belarus for expressing disagreement with Lukashenko, who has ruled the country since 1994, as quoted by News.bg.

The veteran leader, who turned 70 last week, pardoned a previous group of 30 prisoners, including the sick and elderly, last month.

The human rights group "Vyasna" reported that they and at least 11 others were released this week under a pardon issued by Lukashenko on August 16. Another 18 people were released in early July.
