Iran's Supreme Leader pardons thousands of prisoners, including foreigners and people, accused of crimes against the state. This was reported by the Associated Press, citing the state news agency IRNA, as quoted by News.bg.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has agreed to pardon and commute the sentences of 2,887 prisoners following a proposal by Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejeh. The death sentences of 59 people have been commuted to imprisonment.
Among those pardoned are 39 people convicted of crimes against the state, as well as 40 foreign citizens.
Khamenei, who has the final say on all state matters, has pardoned prisoners to mark several occasions, including the Prophet Muhammad's birthday.
