Gunman killed by police near Israeli consulate in Munich, was identified as an 18-year-old Austrian, DPA and APA reported, citing a police spokesman, BTA reports.
Bavaria state interior minister Joachim Herrmann said the man was killed after shooting at police officers.
Herman said he does not rule out the possibility that the target of the suspect's attack was the Israeli consulate.
The attacker was from Salzburg and had Bosnian roots, and was already known in the country as an Islamist, APA reported, referring to the Austrian newspaper “Kronen”.
The incident came on the anniversary of a terrorist attack carried out by Palestinian militants at the city's 1972 Olympics in which 11 Israelis were killed.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry told DPA that no staff at the consulate were injured in today's incident, as it was closed for a memorial service for the victims of the 1972 attack.
