Austrian authorities seized two bulky suitcases containing approximately 35 kilograms of marijuana, on the Vienna airport in Schwechat, reports the news agency APA. The operation, which represents a serious success in the fight against international drug trafficking, took place yesterday, BTA reports.
The suitcases belonged to a 23-year-old American citizen who was on her way to Barcelona, Spain at the time of the arrest. She was immediately arrested and subsequently made full confessions about her involvement in the smuggling scheme. After pleading guilty, the young woman was escorted to the Korneuburg prison, according to the Lower Austrian State Police Directorate.
The drugs were discovered during a routine transit baggage check, with the suitcases registered in her name. The investigation traced her journey from Bangkok, Thailand, through Austria, with the final destination being Barcelona.
