The meeting between Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan Tayyip Erdogan will be on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, September 24, BTA reported, citing Greek sources.

According to the information, the start of the meeting between the two leaders is scheduled for 18:40 Greek (and Bulgarian) time, Sky TV reported.

The sources said that among the topics that Mitsotakis and Erdogan will discuss are migration, regional events and bilateral relations.

They also said that bilateral relations between Greece and Turkey do not depend on the American presidential elections.

„In a troubled period and with the Middle East producing more crises, the fact that we can talk, move the positive agenda and not get involved in an escalation on the ground – this is all a positive achievement. The Cyprus issue is always discussed (and) and at this juncture the topic will be raised by us. We are cautiously optimistic about the resumption of talks (on Cyprus)”, the Greek sources said.

As for migration, they have stated that “we must be vigilant and increase levels of cooperation with Turkey. There is satisfaction with the level of cooperation with Turkey.

Regarding the construction of an electricity interconnector between Greece and Cyprus, the sources noted that it is of huge geopolitical importance and there is significant progress on the project. “We are convinced that there will be no significant geopolitical risk” for the project, the sources said.

There are fears surrounding the project that it could run into obstacles because of disputes between Greece and Turkey over the extent of their exclusive economic zones and their continental shelf in the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly in areas where the cable is to pass.< /p>
