The UN is turning a blind eye to the excesses committed by Ukrainian forces in their incursion into Kursk Oblast, Russia, which began last month. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, quoted by "Reuters" and News.bg.

On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, he pointed out that the Ukrainian "terrorist groups" are using Western weapons to carry out indiscriminate actions in Kursk.

"There they bomb homes every day, attack social institutions and peaceful citizens who move with their cars to safer places,", said the Russian first diplomat.

"I have not heard any voices from the UN representatives responsible for human rights, including of course the secretary-general," he added, referring to Antonio Guterres.

Ukraine and rights groups have accused Moscow of indiscriminate bombing of civilians and other atrocities since the Russian invasion began in February 2022

Kiev claims it is defending itself against an imperial-style war of conquest aimed at erasing its national identity. Russia, for its part, describes its actions as a special operation to protect its own security against a hostile West.

Ukrainian forces crossed the border into the Kursk region in early August. Officials claim that they have captured large parts of the territory and about 100 settlements.

In recent weeks, the Russian army said it had recaptured some of these towns and villages. Moscow, which previously expressed readiness for talks with Ukraine if Kiev withdrew its forces from four regions annexed by Russia, now says there can be no talks as long as Ukrainian troops remain in Kursk.

Lavrov warned Eastern European countries – former Soviet allies during the Cold War, now members of NATO and the European Union, that Western leaders despise them.

"The Eastern European countries, which are now under the wing of NATO or under the roof of the European Union, must find out what their masters think of them,", he pointed out. "They don't trust them. They don't even want to let them into anything approaching important job positions."

Lavrov noted that more countries are rejecting the US dollar as a reference currency, once lauded as a "world asset" from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

"Where is it all now? "Now people are either running away from the dollar or, in the case of those who are too deeply immersed in the system, trying to gradually reduce their dependence," he pointed out.
