Shoigu: Russia and China join forces against US containment policy - 1

Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergei Shoigu, said during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Beijing that the main task of Russia and China is to counter attempts by the United States to limit its capabilities and influence on the international stage. This was reported by the "Reuters" agency, quoted by BTA.

US President-elect Donald Trump has already threatened to impose high tariffs on Chinese goods, raising fears of a possible trade war. Washington defines China as its biggest competitor, and Russia – as a major threat to American security.

In May, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the beginning of a "new era" of a strategic partnership between the two countries, directed against what they define as an aggressive and hegemonic US policy. According to them, this policy has its roots in the Cold War and is aimed at preserving the unipolar world order led by the USA.

Shoigu emphasized that the strong relations between Moscow and Beijing play a stabilizing role in international politics. “The most important task is countering the policy of “double containment” of Russia and China, which is followed by the United States and its allies, he pointed out.

The leaders of Russia and China believe that the era of US dominance that began after the end of the Cold War is losing its influence. According to them, this is a natural reaction to historically layered tensions, such as those from the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 and China's long period of colonial subjugation.
