Thirty-three people were killed and 195 were injured in Israeli strikes on Saturday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported, quoted by the agencies, BTA reported.

"The Israeli aggression against Lebanese areas claimed 33 lives today (yesterday - note ed.) and injured 195 people," the department said on the sixth day of the campaign of massive Israeli bombings against bastions of the Lebanese Shiite movement "Hezbollah".

Last night, a shell fired from Lebanon landed in the occupied West Bank and caused a fire, the Israeli army said.

There are no casualties, adds the Israeli emergency service.

"The fallen projectile was located in the area of Mitzpe Magit," the military said in a statement. "Israeli rescue and fire services are working on the scene to put out the flames caused by the fallen projectile."

Earlier, air raid sirens rang out around Jerusalem and the West Bank.

Hundreds of supporters of Shiite parties demonstrated in front of the American embassy in Iraq after the assassination of the leader of the Lebanese Shiite movement "Hezbollah" Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, DPA reported.

Protesters gathered at the entrance to the so-called Green Zone, the area in Baghdad where the diplomatic mission and government offices are located. Participants in the rally carried Iraqi and Lebanese flags and portraits of the liquidated general secretary of the Lebanese Shiite group, eyewitnesses said.

In their slogans they called for revenge against Israel.

Security forces cordoned off the area to prevent an assault on the Green Zone.

The news portal "Rudau" released footage of law enforcement using a water cannon to push back the crowd.

Iran-backed Shiite parties and groups in Iraq have great influence in local politics. Hezbollah, also an Iranian ally, has supported Iraqi militias since the turn of the century by training fighters who carry out attacks on American targets and expand Tehran's influence.

Hezbollah also provides financial and armed support to these groups, DPA notes.

Canada has expressed deep concern over the conflict between Israel and the Lebanese Shia movement and has pledged 10 million Canadian dollars (7.4 million US dollars) in humanitarian aid to the civilian population in Lebanon, the Foreign Ministry in Ottawa said, as quoted by Reuters.

"Canada calls on all parties to the conflict to protect civilians, including humanitarian workers," the ministry said and called again for a 21-day ceasefire along the Lebanese-Israeli border.

The US State Department has ordered some of its embassy staff in Beirut and their relatives to leave Lebanon amid rising tensions in the Middle East following Israel's assassination of Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, Reuters reported. quoted by BTA.

"Personal travel by personnel of the US Embassy in Beirut without prior authorization is prohibited,'' the US State Department said in a statement. "For security reasons, additional restrictions may be imposed on employees with or without prior notice due to heightened threat or security concerns."

Earlier last night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the targeted killing of the leader of the Lebanese Shiite movement "Hezbollah" Hassan Nasrallah as settling accounts with the "main murderer", reported DPA, quoted by BTA.

"Nasrallah was not just a terrorist, he was the number one terrorist," the Israeli leader told reporters in Tel Aviv.

It was his first public statement since the killing by the Israeli army on Friday of the leader of the Lebanese Shiite movement in Beirut.

Netanyahu identified Nasrallah as the prime mover of an axis of evil created by Iran.

In his words, the leader of Hezbollah is guilty of killing countless Israelis and hundreds of American and dozens of French citizens.

"While Nasrallah was alive, he could quickly restore the potential we took away from Hezbollah," the Israeli prime minister said. "That's why I gave an order - and Nasrallah is no longer among us."

Netanyahu said that killing Nasrallah is also a step towards achieving the goal of tens of thousands of Israelis being able to return to their homes in northern Israel.

They were forced from their homes by Hezbollah's shelling of the area with rockets, grenades and drones since the Gaza conflict began almost a year ago. Hezbollah claims it is acting in solidarity with the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu also issued a warning to Iran not to attack Israel. "And I will say to the regime of the ayatollahs: whoever hits us, we will hit him too," Netanyahu said, referring to the leadership in Tehran. "There is no place in Iran or the Middle East that the long arm of Israel cannot reach," he warned.

Iran, under the rule of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is considered the patron and most important ally of the Shiite movement "Hezbollah".

After the liquidation of Nasrallah Khamenei ordered five days of national mourning.

Among the victims of Friday's strike was Iranian Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, deputy commander of operations of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard Corps.

But it is far from clear whether Iran will rush to Hezbollah's aid, DPA notes.

The new Iranian government of President Masoud Pezeshkian is grappling with a severe economic crisis and seeking a rapprochement with the West.

Although the Iranian military leadership has announced that it will avenge the killing of the leader of "Hamas" Ismail Hania at the end of July, this has not yet happened, adds DPA.
