They point to Hashem Safiaddin as a likely successor to the slain leader of Hezbollah VIDEO - 1
The assassination of the leader of "Hezbollah" Hassan Nasrallah, during Israeli airstrikes on a suburb of the Lebanese capital Beirut, puts Hashem Safiadin, seen as his potential successor, in the center of attention, Reuters reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.

The Iranian-backed "Hezbollah" confirmed that Nasrallah, its leader for 32 years, had been killed in yesterday's strikes. The group now faces the challenge of choosing a new leader after suffering the worst blow in its 42-year history.

The Reuters agency presents some facts related to Safiadin, who, according to a source from "Hezbollah" survived the Israeli attacks.

Safiaddin is Nasrallah's cousin and, like him, he is a cleric.

As head of Hezbollah's Executive Council, Safiaddin is in charge of political affairs in the Lebanese Shiite movement. He is also a member of the council that directs military operations.

In 2017, the US State Department designated him as a terrorist. In June of this year, Safiaddin threatened a major escalation against Israel after the assassination of another "Hezbollah" commander.

Safiaddin's public statements often reflect the militant stance of "Hezbollah" and her support for the Palestinian cause. Nasrallah is preparing his rise in the group's hierarchy by appointing him to posts created for him. Safiaddin's family ties and physical resemblance to Nasrallah, as well as his religious status as a descendant of the Prophet Muhammad, also contributed to his rise.

Safiadin has openly criticized US policy. In response to American pressure on "Hezbollah" in 2017 he stated that "the US government led by Trump will not be able to harm the resistance", claiming that such actions would only strengthen the resolve of "Hezbollah".
