US Vice President Kamala Harris will participate in workshops today to discuss the measures taken by federal authorities against Hurricane Helen. She interrupted her campaign tour to visit the disaster-ravaged southeastern states, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
Harris is returning to Washington earlier than scheduled from Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was on a campaign tour to participate in meetings at the Federal Emergency Response Agency headquarters.
The change in plans comes after criticism from Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who criticized his Democratic rival for not paying enough attention to dealing with the disaster and visited the affected areas himself.
The hurricane has killed at least 90 people in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee and Virginia, leaving millions without power and blocking roads.
Harris was briefed yesterday on the response of federal authorities to deal with the disaster while flying on the presidential plane for campaign events in the western part of the country, according to Reuters.
