The Israeli military said today that since the start of its ground offensive on Monday against the Iran-backed Islamist movement “Hezbollah” has struck more than 2,000 sites in southern Lebanon, including infrastructure and weapons, AFP reported.
„More than 2,000 military targets were hit, including terrorists, infrastructure [...], military buildings and weapons depots”, the statement said.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said earlier today that they estimate they have killed around 250 Hezbollah fighters, including several battalion and company commanders, since the ground operation in Lebanon began earlier this week, reported Reuters.
IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani said the Israeli armed forces were still assessing the damage caused by airstrikes in south Beirut last night, which he said were aimed at Hezbollah's intelligence headquarters.
The Lebanese Shiite movement has not yet said how many casualties it has suffered since the start of the Israeli ground operation, but said today that it had fired artillery shells and rockets at Israeli forces advancing west of the border village of Yaroun in southern Lebanon.< /p>
Earlier, the powerful pro-Iranian group said it fired artillery at Israeli soldiers in the Maroun ar Ras area, on the Lebanese side of the border.
