Ukrainian authorities announced today that they have confiscated the equivalent of almost 5 million euros in cash from a female employee suspected of , that she helped men avoiding military service to avoid military mobilization, reported France Press.

Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) announced that it had found “nearly six million dollars” in various currencies, as well as jewelry and other valuables in the apartment and office of the head of the medical commission for the western Khmelnytskyi region, which is responsible for assessing men's fitness for mobilization.

The woman, identified by the media as Tetiana Krupa, and her son, the head of the regional branch of the state pension fund, were detained yesterday, DBR spokesman Oleg Slobodian told AFP.

In the employee's office, investigators found fake disability documents and lists of pensioners with fictitious medical diagnoses, the SBI statement said.

According to the same source, the family also owns more than two million euros in bank accounts abroad and properties in Ukraine, Austria, Spain and Turkey.

During the search, the employee tried to get rid of part of the money by throwing out of the window two bags containing the equivalent of more than 450,000 euros, adds the DBR.

The SBI released photos and a video of the raids, which show a pile of bundles of money in front of a man lying on a bed, who has not been identified.

The two arrested officials are suspected of large-scale fraud and illegal enrichment and face up to 12 years in prison, as well as confiscation of all their property, the DBR said.

The case has sparked a wave of outrage on social media at a time when recruitment agencies are widely seen as corrupt and Ukraine's army is desperately short of recruits after more than two and a half years of Russian invasion.
