Russia has sent an invitation to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to participate in the BRICS summit in the city of Kazan, the head told journalists of the information center of the world organization in Russia Vladimir Kuznetsov, quoted by TASS.
"An invitation has been sent from the Russian side to the Secretary General to participate in the extended format of the BRICS summit. According to the existing practice, the information about each of his participation in international events is given by the UN headquarters," Kuznetsov said. He noted that the world organization expects important agreements to be reached at the forum regarding the implementation of the goals for sustainable development of the planet by 2030.
The UN has been notified of the invitation to the Secretary General to attend the BRICS summit in Kazan, but so far cannot say anything about his schedule, Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric told journalists in response to a question from TASS.

"We know about the invitation. So far, I have no information about the future visits of the Secretary General," the official said.
Russia is the rotating chairman of BRICS this year. The program of its presidency includes over 200 events dedicated to a wide range of topics. The main event will be the BRICS summit, which will take place from October 22 to 24 in Kazan.
