Kyriakos Mitsotakis calls for a de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East - 1

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for a de-escalation of tensions in the Middle East on against the background of the increasingly aggravated situation in the region, the Greek media reported, quoted by BTA.

In his weekly address on social media, in which he reviews the work of the government, he said that Greece remains “in a state of high alert at all levels”.

„Undoubtedly, what marked this week was the serious escalation of tensions in the Middle East and the increase in threats to regional stability and security,” Mitsotakis said, as quoted by "Kathimerini".

„The situation in Lebanon has significantly worsened and we have witnessed a large-scale attack by Iran against Israel, an attack that Greece condemns in the strongest terms,”, the Greek Prime Minister added.

He recalled that Greece evacuated 22 Greeks and 28 Cypriots from Beirut with a plane of the Greek Air Force, writes ANA-MPA agency.

Missotakis reaffirmed Greece's support for Israel and the country's right to live in safety, a right that was seriously damaged a year ago by the attack of the Palestinian group “Hamas”.

Israel marks tomorrow the anniversary of the unprecedented attack on its territory by the Palestinian Islamist movement “Hamas” on October 7, which claimed the lives of over 1,200 people. It sparked the war in the Gaza Strip, which then spread to neighboring Lebanon against the “Hezbollah” group, an ally of “Hamas”.
