The session of the European parliament in Strasbourg began with a minute's silence in memory of the victims of the attacks of October 7 last year, quoted by BTA.

The meeting was opened by the President of the EP, Roberta Mezzola, in the presence of family members of hostages kidnapped by the Palestinian Islamist organization "Hamas" during the attacks a year ago.

"The horrors of that day will forever remain a shameful memory. "Nothing can ever justify the indiscriminate killings, rapes, kidnappings and tortures that took place a year ago," Mezzola said.

She recalled that people were burned alive in kibbutzim, and Holocaust survivors and young people dancing at a music festival were kidnapped.

"The attacks caused war, death and devastation. As a result, thousands of people died in Gaza. There is instability, many young people have experienced the horror of war, and too many parents see their children go to bed hungry, she pointed out.

Mezzola called for the immediate release of the remaining hostages and promised that the European Parliament would continue to do everything in its power to return them to their homes.

"Our efforts are aimed at de-escalation. We are working for sustainable and lasting peace in the area in memory of all the innocents," she concluded.
