At least two workers have died and 35 have been injured in a leak of dangerous chemicals in oil refinery in Texas owned by Mexican state oil company Pemex.
„Unfortunately, we have two deaths that were directly affected by the gas leak,” Pemex Director Victor Rodríguez Padilla told AFP, quoted by NOVA.
35 people need medical attention, of which 13 are still in hospital under observation. They are all Americans. An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway. Work at the refinery, which processes nearly 300,000 barrels of oil a day, was kept to a minimum.
Pemex has suffered a number of fires and other safety-related incidents in recent years. In April, a fire on a platform off the coast of southeastern Mexico killed one worker. In July 2023, an explosion at a gas facility in the Gulf of Mexico killed two workers.
