Chinese President Xi Jinping said that China wants to be a friend of the United States and that the partnership between the two countries has benefited the whole world, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"China wants to be a partner and friend of the US. This will benefit not only the two countries, but also the whole world," Xi wrote in a letter congratulating participants in the annual awards ceremony of the National Committee on US-China Relations.
Xi adds that Beijing and Washington have one of the most important bilateral relations in the world, on which the future of all humanity depends.
The two countries have disagreements related to national security, trade, China's actions in the South China Sea and increased Chinese military exercises around Taiwan, Reuters notes.
China has always adhered in its relations with the US to "the principles of mutual respect, peaceful coexistence and mutually beneficial cooperation, and has always believed that the success of China and the US is a mutual opportunity," the Chinese leader concluded.
