Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Argachi arrived in Cairo last night for talks with the Egyptian government, reported Reuters. It is the first such visit in years and is part of his Middle East tour amid fears of an escalation in the region's confrontation with Israel, quoted by BTA.

Aragchi arrived for “important talks with high-ranking Egyptian officials to be held tomorrow,”, a spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry wrote in a post on the X social network, after the minister had previously visited other countries, including Saudi Arabia Arabia, Qatar, Iraq and Lebanon.
Relations between Egypt and Iran have been fraught with tension in recent decades, but the two countries have stepped up diplomatic contacts since the start of the Gaza crisis last year, when Egypt tried to play the role of mediator between the warring countries.
Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelati traveled to Tehran in July to attend the inauguration of the president.
