A plane was shot down in Sudan Il-76, on board of which there was probably a Russian crew, reported the Russian embassy.
The Russian Embassy in Sudan is in contact with the local authorities and is monitoring the situation. It was earlier reported that the rebel “Rapid Reaction Force“ in Sudan they mistakenly shot down a Kyrgyz-registered IL-76T transport plane (formerly Ukrainian UR-CPS) allegedly transporting weapons from the UAE.
A video of the crash site has been published on the Sudan War Monitor project website, in which it is claimed that crew members from the Russian Federation and Kyrgyzstan - flight engineer Viktor Granov and Anton Selivanets - died as a result of the incident.
Sudan's civil war has been ongoing since 2023. The Sudanese army is having difficulty containing the advancing rebels, who are accused of ethnic killings and attacks. Tens of thousands of Sudanese are fleeing to Chad.
