Russian state media reported in Monday, that Moscow forces fighting in Ukraine have taken out of eastern Ukraine an American citizen who allegedly provided covert assistance to the Russian military for two years, Reuters reported, as quoted by News.bg.
The media published a photo of the man in civilian clothes surrounded by a group of Russian special forces, but his face was blurred. According to the information, the alleged American is named with the initials "Kenneth M."
The US Embassy in Moscow declined to comment, citing privacy concerns.
According to Russian sources, the man was passing valuable intelligence to Russia that allowed the Russian military to carry out "precision strikes" against Ukrainian forces. They also state that the rescued American is not in danger and that the possibility of granting political asylum and Russian citizenship is being considered.
