As it approaches Taiwan, the powerful typhoon "Kun Rei" caused ten-meter waves and brought heavy rains to the island, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
The storm is expected to make landfall at noon local time or in the early afternoon. According to the latest data from meteorologists "Kun Ray" is with wind gusts sometimes reaching over 260 km/h. It is more powerful than Typhoon Gemi, which in July became the biggest storm to hit Taiwan in the last eight years.
With a radius of 320 km "Kong-rei" will become the widest typhoon to make landfall in Taiwan in nearly 30 years.
Dozens of ferry connections and domestic flights were canceled yesterday due to its approach. Many people left their homes as a precaution. Schools and businesses will remain closed.
