Reza Valizadeh, an Iranian-American journalist who once worked for a US government-funded broadcaster, has been detained by Iran for several months, the Associated Press reported. (AP) on Sunday, quoted by News.bg.
Valizadeh's imprisonment was confirmed to The Associated Press by the US State Department, the news agency said.
Valizadeh previously worked for Radio Farda, a Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty program controlled by the US Global Media Agency.
The AP report said Iran did not acknowledge Valizadeh's detention and that Iran's mission to the United Nations did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Voice of America (VOA), another US government-funded media outlet controlled by the Global Media Agency, first reported that the State Department acknowledged Valizadeh's detention, the AP said.
