< British Defense Minister John Healy expressed his expectation that the team of future US President Donald Trump will maintain Washington's commitment to NATO and, as long as necessary, to Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, reports Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Asked to comment on whether support for Kiev has waned since the Republican's victory in the US election, Healey replied in an interview with "Sky News": "As for President Trump, he realizes that countries guarantee their security through force , as well as through alliances such as NATO."
"I expect the US to stand by its allies, such as Britain, and support Ukraine for as long as it takes to repel (Russian President Vladimir) Putin's invasion," Healy added.
He also noted that America's commitment to NATO and European security will remain strong under the Trump administration, but pointed out that European countries will have to increase their defense spending for some time.
"I don't expect the US to turn its back on NATO. "They realize the importance of the alliance and understand the importance of avoiding future conflicts in Europe," Healy said.
Meanwhile, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian forces, General Oleksandr Sirsky, said that Russian troops were trying to advance in the Kursk region and added that Moscow had massed tens of thousands of troops in this region bordering Ukraine.
"On orders from their military leadership, they are trying to push our units out and advance deep into the territories we control," wrote Sirski in the "Telegram" application.
In August, Kiev forces invaded Russia's border region of Kursk and captured a number of villages. These were the first actions by Ukraine on Russian territory since the beginning of the war in 2022.
Research by "Greenpeace" shows that NATO still has military superiority over Russia, reports DPA. According to analysts Herbert Wolff and Christopher Steinmetz, "there is no need for Germany to increase its military spending permanently", as this would lead to cuts in social spending, including education and environmental protection.
