Kiev: This was the hardest year for Ukrainian energy - 1

Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko described the past year as the hardest for the Ukrainian energy system due to the enemy attacks on energy infrastructure facilities, which continue, Ukrinform reported, BTA reports.

The minister made this statement in an interview with the TV channel "Ni-Ukraina" (Mi-Ukraine), according to the ministry's press service.

"Energy workers work around the clock. The fact that the energy system is holding up today, that the energy system is integrated, stable and provides both electricity and heating to consumers, is a great merit of every employee in the energy system who does their job," Galushchenko emphasized.

In 2022 and 2023, Russia began its attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure in October, while in 2024, the massive attacks began in March and lasted a whole year, the minister added.

"The scale of the destruction was enormous, much greater than in previous years. The very nature of the attacks has changed, as has their complexity, as well as the weapons. So this was really the most difficult year for the energy system," he also noted. According to him, the tactics of the attacks have changed and Russia is now striking every night. In addition to drones, various missiles are also used in the massive attacks. In total, Moscow's forces launched 13 massive attacks on the Ukrainian energy system last year.

Due to the scale of the Russian attacks, the scale of the repair campaign of Ukrainian energy facilities has also changed and it is the largest in the country's history. Ukrainian energy workers are using equipment supplied by international partners or purchased with donated funds.

On January 1 of this year, Ukrainian energy workers restored electricity supply to 12,122 consumers, which was interrupted due to the fighting, Ukrinform reminds.
