Two of the future US aircraft carriers will be named after former presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, US President Joe Biden announced, quoted by Agence France-Presse.
Biden, whose term ends in less than a week, said that construction of these warships would begin in the coming years.
The US Navy now has 11 aircraft carriers - more than any other country. By comparison, there are a total of 25 such ships in active service around the world, with China in second place with three.
Most US presidents since World War II have had an aircraft carrier named after them.
Nuclear-powered aircraft carriers are a key element of the US Navy.
